At Cramer Law, our work is rooted in more than legal knowledge—it is rooted in humanity. For attorney Amy Cramer, one of the most rewarding moments of her career came not in a courtroom or through a settlement, but in a deposition where she stood up for a client in a deeply personal way.
The case involved a group of women who had experienced various forms of sexual harassment while working as paramedics for the City of Chicago. During a deposition, one of the women began to face aggressive questioning from the city’s attorneys. The topic turned to a miscarriage, an incredibly sensitive subject.
What the opposing attorneys didn’t know was that Amy had also experienced a miscarriage.
“I knew the pain that brought,” Amy shared in a recent video. “When I heard the attorney begin to push my client on that, I stepped in. I told them, you will not continue to ask her these questions.”
In that moment, Amy wasn’t just a lawyer. She was an advocate with lived experience, drawing a firm line where compassion was needed. And the attorney stopped.
“That moment is one I’ll always be proud of,” Amy said. “Any time I can use my life experience and weave it with my practice, that’s when really amazing things happen.”
