Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks the day, June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation and ensure the last enslaved African Americans were freed. Though the proclamation had been signed more than two years earlier, it wasn’t until this day that freedom reached every corner of the United States.
In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday, but for many, its significance has long been acknowledged and celebrated as a powerful reminder of both the injustices of the past and the ongoing struggle for equality and justice.
Why Juneteenth Matters
Juneteenth is more than a commemoration of emancipation, it’s a reflection on progress and a call to continue the work toward a more just society. It reminds us that freedom, dignity, and equity are not just ideals—they’re rights worth protecting.
At Cramer Law, we are committed to upholding those rights every day. Whether we are guiding a client through the legal process or advocating for fairness within the justice system, we understand the importance of treating every individual with integrity, respect, and compassion.
Our Commitment to Justice and Equity
As a law firm, we are acutely aware of how access to justice can shape a person’s future. We believe that honoring Juneteenth means not only reflecting on the past but also working to ensure the legal system serves all people, regardless of race, background, or economic status.
We remain committed to listening, learning, and contributing to a future where justice is truly equal and accessible.
Celebrating Progress, Acknowledging Work to Be Done
Juneteenth is a celebration of strength and progress, but it’s also a reminder of how far we still have to go. We encourage our community to take time today to reflect, engage in meaningful conversations, support Black-owned businesses, and participate in local events that honor this important day.
In Closing
As we recognize Juneteenth, we stand in solidarity with those continuing the fight for equality. At Cramer Law, we’re proud to be part of a profession where we can help protect rights, amplify voices, and advocate for a more just world.
